We all understand modern art to be marked by a significant departure from traditional styles and values, created between the late 19th and the late 20th centuries in particular, but then again, to look at it differently, a lot under the label of “Modern” in terms of Indian art today has, in fact, over its due course intersected or diverged from various socio-political movements concerning this part of the world, lending it a character of its own. This walk will take you through the National Gallery of Modern Art while discussing the major developments in modern Indian art. Get a glimpse into the layers that defined the lives of artists thus involved and how their art spoke for their times, their roots and/or their stand/perspective—from the travelling British artists, the various schools of art from different regions to the individual artists experimenting with their art. Come, join us for a walk amidst the pioneering works of some of the greatest names in the modern Indian art scene.
This guided tour is for free, and children friendly.
