Briefly describe the history of the museum, its collection and donors.

Built by Maharana Fateh Singh (1884 - 1930) of Mewar, the Fateh Prakash Palace of Chittorgarh was used to establish a government museum under the Archaeology and Museum Department by the Government of Rajasthan in 1968. The museum was established with the purpose of representing the art and culture of the Mewar region of Rajasthan.

The double-storied palace is visible from a distance of about 6 to 7 km. Rectangular in shape it has four domes adorned by colourful glass crafted by the artists of Bassi in the Chittorgarh District.  The display at the museum includes ancient sculptures, weapons, portraits, models and full-size portraits of the legends of Mewar. Photographs of ancient temples and monuments of Chittorgarh Fort are also displayed in the Diaramaz gallery of the museum. The museum also houses a pond with a statue of Maharana Fateh Singh on a lotus.
