Main category
Briefly describe the history of the museum, its collection and donors.
Though the Asiatic society has given over most of its collection to the Indian Museum, it still houses a remarkable collection of ancient copper plates, coins, sculptures, manuscripts, and archival records. It has a unique collection of several rare and important journals of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries in almost all European languages. This collection covers a wide range of subjects such as science, medical, nature studies, arts & literature, agriculture etc. Highlights at this museum are an Asokan Rock Edict (dated to 250 B.C.), an infant christ painting by the artist Rubens, A ghat at Benaras by the colonial artist Daniell, and manuscripts from over 23 languages.
