The museum at Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is a rich repository of all known Tibetan books and religious articles of the Mahayana Buddhism. It is located on the ground of the institute premises.
The museum houses religious icons, traditional art objects, thangkas as well as original manuscripts in Sanskrit, Tibetan, Chinese and Lepcha. Some of the unique objects of the museum are a Sanskrit palm leaf manuscript circa 1050 AD containing a rare commentary of Prajnaparamita, obtained from Sakya monastery in Tibet; the 11th century statue of Vajrasattva; and 11th century Tibetan manuscripts in gold glittering.
