Briefly describe the history of the museum, its collection and donors.
Anand Bhawan is a historic house museum in Allahabad, the erstwhile residence of the Nehru family. Bought in the 1930s by Motilal Nehru, the sprawling mansion stood witness to the lives of the likes of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. Its rooms, with their high ceilings and intricately-carved furniture, now lie frozen in an era gone by, behind glass partitions. They also served as meeting areas for the upper echelons of the Indian National Congress.
Anand Bhawan was donated to the Indian government in 1970 by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, the granddaughter of Motilal Nehru and the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru.
