Briefly describe the history of the museum, its collection and donors.

Housing a vast variety of sculptures of Buddha made up of wood, metal and marble, the museum has one large gallery and is located in Ambedkar Bhavan. The curator, Dilip Wankhede has collected over 1200 statues of Buddha and several rare photographs of Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The museum is located in the Dr Ambedkar Sanskrutik Bhavan and is open for everyone, without an entry fee. Dr Ambedkar converted to Buddhism to move away from the hierarchical caste structure of Hinduism that leads to the oppression of lower castes. Buddha holds immense importance for a vast majority of Dalits in the country. This museum hosts an extensive collection of Buddha sculptures that Dilip Wankhede has procured and curated from all around the world over the years.
